Blanch Marie (Iske) Beem, daughter of William and Celia (Trusler) Iske, was born October 19, 1899 at Newton, Iowa. She attended school at Newton until age 11 when she moved with her family to Bruce, South Dakota. She continued her education in rural school in the Bruce-Estelline area.

Blanche was united in marriage to Leo Beem June 9, 1918, in Estelline. Following their marriage, Leo served in the Armed Forces during World War I and when he returned they moved to Wisconsin. They returned to Bruce in 1929 and made Bruce their home until his death on August 20, 1973.

Blanche continued to live Bruce until the mid 1990's when she moved to Watertown. She lived in her own apartment until she was 99 years old and then moved into assisted living until entering Jenkins Living Center in October 2000. She died there on Tuesday, December 26, 2000 at the age of 101 years, 2 months and 7 days.

She was a member of the Bruce United Methodist Church where she held many offices in the church and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Harmony Extension Club, The American Legion Auxiliary and served as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, tatting, gardening, camping and fishing.

Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Berniece Townsend of Watertown and Maydean Townsend and her husband David of Casa Grandma, AZ; one son Marvin and his wife Mary of Lawrenceville, GA; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Blanche was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, James and Albert in infancy; one brother Elmer; and four sisters, Lena taken, Edith Taken, Ruth Grensing and Lillie Mae Bisom.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family at Bruce United Methodist Church following the committal.
