Obituary, The Oklahoman, February 8, 2002
Edward P. Leslie, Jr., passed away on February 5, 2002, after a brief illness. He was born on November 2, 1911, in Little Rock, Arkansas, one of four children to Florence Dice and Edward P. Leslie, Sr. His family moved to Oklahoma City when Ed was four years old. He graduated from Central High School in 1928. He attended Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University), pledged Kappa Alpha Fraternity and studied business. Ed was an avid OSU sports fan.

Ed met Norma Fitts when both worked in the Colcord Building. They married in 1940. The only time they were separated during more than 60 years of marriage was during Ed's service to his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II when he was stationed in India. He saw active duty again during the Korean War. Ed rose to the rank of Lt Colonel. Ed contracted with Mutual of New York on May 1, 1936. His association with MONY was lifelong except during his Air Force service. Following his military service, Ed returned to MONY and Oklahoma City where he spent a lifetime making friends and selling insurance. He never met a stranger, which made Ed successful in his career and personal life. He was repeatedly honored during his career. He was inducted into the MONY Hall of Fame in 1970. Ed was honored in 19 Top Clubs, four Summit Clubs, six President's Councils and 14 Field Clubs. Rotary was an important part of Ed's life. He joined Rotary in 1939 and had more than 61 years of perfect attendance, which was a source of great pride for Ed. He held every office in his Rotary Club. He was president of the Oklahoma City Rotary Club in 1957-1958. Other recent community activities include service on the Advisory Board of Directors for the Oklahoma City Area Command of the Salvation Army, membership in The Mens' Dinner Club and the Nichols Hills United Methodist Church.

His parents and his sisters, Mildred Allison and Lee Hunley, preceded Ed in death. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his sister, Alice Leslie Park, and her husband, Lee, Midland, Texas; his nephew, Robert Allison, Bay City, Texas; his nieces, Susan Eiteljorg, and her husband, Jack, Santa Fe, New Mexico; JoAnn Allison, Media, Pennsylvania, Leslie Jane Park, Arcadia, California, Carolyn Fanshier, and her husband, Allen, Victoria, Texas, and Mary Jane Carlisle, and her husband, Chuck, Alice, Texas. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 7, 2002, at Smith and Kernke Funeral Directors. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2002, at the Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oklahoma City Rotary Club Foundation, Oklahoma City, or the Salvation Army Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
