Mary E. Riggert was the wife of Isaac "Doc" Thayer, a plainsman, Sheriff, Deputy US Marshal, Stagecoach driver, Indian Scout (one of Colonel Forsyth's scouts that fought the Battle of Beecher Island, Colorado Territory in September, 1868) and keeper of saloons and gaming houses in Fort Hays, Newton and Wichita, Kansas in the 1860's - 1880's. Later he operated at grocery store in Kansas City, Missouri. Doc died in Kansas City in 1905 and their only daughter, Charlotta "Lottie" Thayer - Crawford - Marytn - Wells died in 1917.

Mary, her mother, Henriett, and Mary's sister, Matilda (Riggert) Mossbacher - Dennison all moved to California shortly after Isaac Thayer died.
