Birth: Oct. 15, 1830
Juniata County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jan. 16, 1914
Perry County
Pennsylvania, USA

He married Susanna unk. and fathered Penrose (b. @1859), John H. (b. @1861), Lenas (b. @1862), William (b. @1864), Martin (b. @1865), and Emma (b. @1867). In the 1880 census, the family name is spelled "Cope," which may indicate how they pronounced it. In 1864, he was a laborer by trade and stood 5' 10" tall with light hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted September 27, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg allegedly the same day (not likely), assigned as a private to Co. B, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 17, 1865.
