David served as a private with the 208th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company E (Civil War).

He married Caroline unk. and fathered Elizabeth Jane (b. @1852), Richard (b. @1855), Emma (b. @1861), Charles (b. @1863), and Daniel (b. @1864). In 1860, he was a millwright living in Saville Township, Perry County, and stood 5' 10" tall with black hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 29, 1864, and mustered into federal service there September 2 as a private with Co. E, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was wounded in the head during the final assault on the Confederate works at Petersburg, Virginia, but returned to duty April 23 and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
Caroline died in 1871, and he married Sarah A. unk. They apparently had no children.
