Birth: May, 1869
Dooly County
Georgia, USA
Death: Aug. 21, 1921
Bibb County
Georgia, USA

This poor woman's death certificate was woefully incomplete. Annie (Horne) Gatlin was a widow, 52 years of age, who died from a diabetic coma. Her husband had been Thomas J. Gatlin, deceased (a son of my great, great grandfather). She was born in Dooly County, Georgia, and her parents were Alphus Horne (b.@1824) & Mary Horne (b.@1827).Annie and Thomas had married in 1898. They were blessed with one child, a daughter they named Annie Mae who was born in 1903. During that time, Thomas had been managing a farm that they lived on in the Lower 14th District of Houston County, Georgia. In 1910, Thomas stated on the census that he was owner of the farm and had 30 employees. Sadly, he died Dec 12th, 1919 and I was unable to find a census for her for 1920 although she lived until Aug 21st, 1921. She had been living at 514 Jackson St. in Macon, Bibb County, GA., possibly with her daughter, Annie Mae, when she passed. She was buried next to her husband at Marshallville City Cemetery, Marshallville, Macon County, GA. Ron Mancil kindly took a photo of Thomas's headstone and searched the cemetery for a headstone for Annie, but none could be found so she is probably in an unmarked grave. Her maiden name was Horne and J.C. Horne signed the death certificate, but I couldn't find a match for those initials in the old censuses from before she married or a J.C. Horne in the area after she passed, but I'm certain it was a relative who signed the death certificate and most likely helped make arrangements for her funeral and burial. Such a shame as I find out much of my information from death certificates and censuses, but at least I've learned something of this dear lady.
If anyone knows anything more about Annie (Horne) Gatlin or her daughter, Annie Mae Gatlin (b.1903), I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd contact me by using the "edit" key on this memorial. Thank you very much. With All Sincerity,
Kathie L. Webb Blair,
