Death: Oct. 14, 1895

Son of James Harvey Adams who was born Jan. 13, 1839 in Mercer County, Indiana. Married Melissa Jane McCampbell in 1860. Two children were born to this union James William Adams and Ovy Ellen Adams. James Harvey Adams fought in the Civil war near Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee and died Dec. 16, 1864. He is buried in a Nashville National Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.

J.W. died of Thyroid in Herrington KS but is buried in Iola KS (I have newspaper clipping to attest to all that). At issue is that the find a grave web site is that it states that William Casper Adams was his father. His father was actually James Harvey Adams who had children with Melissa Campbell Adams i.e. Ovy Ellen and James William but was subsequently was killed in the Civil War (Battle of Nashville and is in fact buried in the military cemetery near Nashville). I have all the Veteran records to show Melissa’s efforts to get a pension for James Harvey’s two kids.

He came to Kansas in 1869 with his parents and lived in Allen county until about two years ago when he went to Herington as Bridge Inspector for the Rock Island. He was an industrious and honest man, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

He was taken ill with typhoid fever about two weeks ago and in spite of all the skill and care that could be given he grew steadily worse until the end came. The remains were brought to Iola where they were interred on Wednesday, the obsequies being held in the Presbyterian church, under the auspices of the I. O. O. F., of which the deceased was a member, Rev. W. L. Squier officiating.

The deceased leaves a wife and three children who will have the sympathy of all their
