DEVORE FAMILY
Benjamin Franklin Devore, the son of Elijah and Martha (Lee) Devore, was born 3 Jan 1847 in Bartholomew Co, IND., died 5 June 1939 at Hardman, OR. He md: Martha Ann Stephens, dau of Cumberland & Sarah Jane (Ridlen) Stephens, 11 Apr 1869: she d: 1 Feb 1913. They came to Morrow Co ca 1883.

He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Co. D 6th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a drummer boy. He enlisted 20 Apr 1864 at Centerville, Iowa and was mustered out 21 July 1865 at Louisville, KY. At the time of his death he was the last of the G.A.R. Veterans in Morrow Co. For many years he placed the flags on the veteran's graves in the Hardman district.

Benj. and Martha owned and operated the Devore Hotel in Hardman until her death in 1913.

They had the following children:
1.) Maurice E. b: 23 July 1871, md: Viola Jane Merrill 29 Nov 1902; she was the dau of Thomas Jefferson & Eudora (Hammond) Merrill, & they had Frank, Bonnie, Marvin.
2.) Alvin Green (Jack), who was b: 8 Sep 1873, md: Elsie B. Smith, ch: Loye & Cecile.
3.) Louisa Lesta, who md: Archie Z. Barnard, one ch: Loye Faye.
4.) William Ezekiel, b: 7 Mar 1879, md: Ola Baker, ch: Harry, Elvin, Neal, Wilma.
5.) Ada Myrtle, b: 25 June 1884, in Morrow Co, OR (all other ch b: in Iowa), md: Scott H. Osborne ch: Madge, Sidney, Helen, Donald, Rex, Marvel.

Benj. & Martha are buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rood Canyon, near Hardman, Morrow Co, OR.
