Hazel was born Oct 24, 1892 on a farm in Ohio Twp, Sedgwick County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Sebastian Christian and Clara Bell (Broomfield) Gise. Hazel married Will Leggett Mar 23, 1908 in Sedgwick County, Kansas. They had one son, Lawrence. Hazel developed asthma and so the family moved to Colorado in 1919. They eventually settled in Englewood. They built a cabin near Evergreen and called it Hazelhurst. It was enjoyed by the family and extended family for many, many years.
She had dark skin, hazel eyes and dark brown hair. Hazel was known for being very generous and good-hearted.
Hazel's father died in 1940 and she went to Kansas for his burial and came down with pneumonia. She eventually recovered enough to return to Colorado, but the years of asthma had weakened Hazel's heart. She died at Porter's Hospital in Denver on Feb 7, 1943. She was 50. She is buried in Fairmount Cemetery.
