Great-grandfather is John George Heidt, I, Salzburger who came to Georgia Colony in 1749. Father is Reverend and Georgia Assemblyman Emanuel Heidt. Attended West Point, at age of 16. Served in Confederate Army, Private, or may have been 2nd Lieutenant because of his West Point attendance. Fought in the Civil War. Was a Knight Templar in St. Omar Commandery in Savannah. Worked for many years as an engineer on the Southwestern Railroad.

His mother is Frances Lucretia GRAYSON. His namesake, Charles Ballou HEIDT II, was born the 21st of November, 1879, and was the son of his brother Daniel Gugel HEIDT.

This item, taken from the Baltimorean, appeared in the Macon Telegraph and Messenger, on page 4, at the bottom of the first column, of its issue of the 21st of August, 1879: Mr. Charles HEIDT, a popular engineer on the Southwestern and Central Railroad, died recently at Whitesville [Guyton], near Savannah, of bilious remittent fever. His last words were: "Open the doors and let her roll, we have only twenty minutes to get her over the hill."
