Bobby Ray Ball
Funeral services for Sgt. 1st Class (retired) Bobby Ray Ball, 65, of Lawton, Okla., the brother of Della Chapman of Dimmitt, were to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God in Lawton with Rev. John E. Brown, senior pastor, and Rev. Don Barnes, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial was to be with full military honors at Post Cemetery of Fort Sill, Okla., under direction of Becker Funeral Home of Lawton.

Sgt. Ball died Jan. 26 at a Fort Sill hospital from a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Littlefield. He married Minnie "Mearl" Ross on Oct. 2, 1953, in Wichita Falls. He joined the US Army in 1950 and retired in 1970. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He had received many service medals during his military career. Since 1973, he had been an insurance agent for Standard Life and Accident Insurance Co. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Lawton, where he served as an usher. He was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ray Ball.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Greg Ball of Norman, Okla., and Alan Ball of Fort Gordon, Ga.; two daughters, Cheryl Biby of Altus, Okla., and Becky Cody of Tecumseh, Okla.; four brothers, James Ball of Littlefield, Alvin Ball of Dallas, Morris Ball of Colorado, and Max Ball of Bedford; two sisters, Evelyn McBee of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Delia Chapman of Dimmitt; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the First Assembly of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 6485, Lawton, OK 73506, or to Teen Challenge, Rt. 2, Box 21B, Cache, OK 73527.
