Marie Catherine Dahmer, 69, of Deer Runs, near Franklin, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Dahmer was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Pansy and was a daughter of the late Loy Whetzel and Ottie Ratcliff Whetzel.

She retired as a Pendleton County deputy assessor in 1996 after 31 years of service and was a clerk for the FBI in Washington D.C., from 1952 to 1957. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1952. She was active with the Treasure Mountain Festival Association for 20 years and Treasure Mountain Festival Grand marshal in 2002. She was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, CEOS Club and FBI Alumni, Washington, D.C., Metro Chapter.

Mrs. Dahmer was a 4-H leader of Deer Run Pioneers for 30 years and was named 1985 Outstanding 4-H volunteer leader. She did volunteer work at Christian Assistance Network (CAN) and was named 2003 past outstanding 4-H volunteer leader, was a 4-H all-star and a notary public.

She is survived by her husband, L. Glenn Dahmer, whom she married on Sept. 9, 1957, at Mt, Zion United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Al Guyon officiating.

All surviving are two daughters, Pamela Hartman and Glenna Dunkle, both of Franklin; a son, Rodney Dahmer of Elizabeth; four sisters, Ardella Clear and Luella Montgomer, both of Alexandria, VA, Arvella Finnigan of Hinton, VA, and Louise Butler of McGaheysville, VA; two brothers, William "Raymond" Whetzel of Broadway, VA, and Virgil Whetzel of Mount Crawford, VA; three granddaughters, Jennifer Dunkle and Stacy and Myra Hartman, all of Franklin, and mother-in-law, Bessie Dahmer, Pendleton Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death , in addition to her parents, by one brother, Arlie Whetzel.

The Revs. Walter Mullins, Kathy Mullins and Stanley Kile conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
