Article from "The Golden Globe," Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado, September 2, 1905, Page 3 (as printed):
"Susan Houston died in Golden, in May 1879, aged 66 years, and was buried in Golden Cemetery, in what was then known as potter's field. Since then no one has looked after the grave. This week Mrs. C. L. Hopkins, of Bellingham, Mass., a daughter of deceased, and her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Ward of Leadville, Colo., called on City Clerk Colman for directions as to how to find the grave. The matter was referred to former Sextton Charles Nolan and he went with the ladies to the cemetery. The old headboard was found nearly rotted down, but the inscription cut with a jackknife in the board told the story. Mr. Nolan also found that the grave was in city ground and not in potter's field, and the weeping daughter was greatly relieved. The grave will now be cared for."
