Ruthie was born on March 10, 1925, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Joseph and Cora (Herbst) Schumacher. Both of her parents preceded her in death.
Also preceding her were an older brother, Joe Jr.; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Wetzbarger) Schumacher; and a nephew, Bruce Fisher.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Schumacher) and Eli Fisher; five nieces and nephews, Mickey Carmichael (and Paul) of Long Beach, Calif., Janet Frieden (and Floyd) of Elgin, Iowa, Leslie Gerdt (and Randy) of Peoria, Mark Schumacher (and Robyn) of Jerome, Ariz., and Corky Schumacher (and Patti) also of Peoria; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Ruthie's number one passion in life was serving her Lord and serving others. She had been a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Morton (and of Chicago) for 63 years.
During her free time, and even more after she retired, Ruthie put a great deal of time and effort into volunteering to help others at the Restmor Nursing Home in Morton, as well as at Timber Ridge.
She was extremely active in her church, and enjoyed socializing with friends and family, going out for lunch, working crossword puzzles, and listening to piano music and hymns.
Ruthie attended Business College, where she received her associate degree and went on to work several jobs before moving to Chicago and working as an account manager for Amoco/BP's jet fuel division until she returned home to central Illinois for retirement.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at the Apostolic Christian Church of Morton, with church ministers officiating.
