WISE, Va. - Dixie Ellen Stipes, 79, passed away Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at Heritage Hall Health Care, Big Stone Gap, Va.
She was a devoted mother and homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Stipes; two sons, Johnny Marion and Frankie Freeman; her parents, Leonard F. and Stacy Ellen Fields Sturgill; and a brother, Clarence T. Sturgill.
Surviving are five daughters, Stacy Roberts, Gladys Kendrick, Faye Collins and Betty Eakins, all of Wise, Va., and Bonnie Calhoun, St. Paul, Va.; five sons, Charlie Freeman, Norton, Va., Coy Freeman and David Stipes, both of Wise, Va., Bill Stipes, Appalachia, Va., and Jimmy Stipes, Ocala, Fla.; 35 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ernest Duncan and the Rev. Charles Starnes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gray Cemetery, Norton, Va
