BENTON, Wis. -- Lavada F. Brunskill, 87, of Benton, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at home surrounded by her loving grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Shullsburg, with the Rev. Brenda Widford officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Shullsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Benton. Friends also may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1921, in Buncombe, daughter of Edward and Vinnie (Hocking) Kittoe. She married her loving husband, Joseph Brunskill, on Sept. 12, 1966; he preceded her in death on June 23, 1984; She spent her life working on the farm side by side with him in Shullsburg.
She also worked at Atwoods Manufacturing in Stockton, Ill., retiring in 1984.
Lavada was a true blessing to her family and friends with the softest, most compassionate heart. She might have been a small woman, but she had the heart of a giant. Her life was family, and she gave body and soul to her family.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Julie (Lloy) Clough, and Robert (Rose) Harris, both of Benton, Laura (Todd) Harris-Koeller, of Dubuque, and Lynne (Tim) Harris-Walton, of Verona; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Harris Callan, of Benton; two step-daughters, Shirley (David) Wilberding, of Mount Horeb, and Jeanne (Stan) Turpin, of Galena, Ill.; two stepsons, Joe (Mary Alyce) Brunskill, of Dubuque, and Dave (Marty) Brunskill, of Shullsburg; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Adda Gehart, of Shullsburg.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her only child, Robert Vincent Harris, on June 8, 1994; and a granddaughter, Ruth Ann "Boo Boo" Harris, on Feb. 4, 1990.
