Morehead dies at age of 62
Charles W. Morehead, who served 19 years as Warren County Clerk and five years as a county magistrate, died at 2:29 a.m. today at the Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 62.
Morehead, a Warren County native who resided in Smiths Grove, held the county clerk's seat for five terms, beginning in 1966 and ending in 1985 when he chose not to seek re-election.
Morehead began a political career that spanned three decades in 1961 as county magistrate representing the Elks Springs District, which is now known as District Four in Smiths Grove. He was re-elected to that office in November 1965.
Prior to his political career, Morehead served four years with the state Department of Transportation Division of Weights and Measures and was also associated with the used car sales business for about two years. He was a member of Smiths Grove Baptist Church, Hays Masonic Lodge No. 517, American Legion and VFW posts in Bowling Green and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors Include his wife, Mrs. Bernadine Williams Morehead; two daughters, Mrs. Mickeye Morehead Murphy of Bowling Green and Mrs. Shirlyn Morehead Hudson of Houston, Texas, and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Hardy and Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
