Albert enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 10, 1943. The enlistment date may be significant to his birth date as he would have turned 17 that same month.
At some time he volunteered for parachutist duty and was sent to Ft Benning, GA for jump school where he completed the required five jumps to become a qualified parachutist.
He was then assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment on 18 September 1944 as a replacement for losses the regiment suffered in Normandy.
On December 18, 1944 the regiment was called upon to immediately move to the Ardennes in Belgium where the now famous Battle of The Bulge was about to begin. The fighting was little more than a week old when Albert was killed in action in the Basse-Bordeux area.
He was initially interred in the temporary cemetery at Henri Chapelle (Plot QQ-1-63) on December 29, 1944. After the war ended the family elected to have his remains returned home.
The following newspaper article documents his return.
