OBITUARY-CLARION DEMOCRAT-August 21,1913
Cyphert,Anthony R.-August 21,1913,Last Thursday,August 14,1913,at about mid-day Anthony R.Cyphert,one of the best known citizens of Clarion,passed out to the beyond after an illness which lasted about a yr.and a half from a serious effection of the throat and mouth.During his illness he kept up a cheerful manner and was always glad to see his friends.A change for the worse occurred the first of the last wk.and the end came rapidly but peacefully.Mr Cyphert was born in Limestone Twp.on June 16,1846,the son of John J.and Elizabeth Cyphert.He grew to young manhood in the twp.and received the preliminaries of his education there.Afterwards he lived for some time in Greenville Village but the larger portion of his life has been in Clarion.He served as Deputy Prothonotary and had clerked in the office in the court house for many yrs.and was probably one of the best posted men in the county about the recorded and affairs of the county.This experience also gave him a very extended acquaintance throughout the county,as he was a most obliging and accommodating clerk or friend and he was always doing a kindness for those who appealed to him.He was elected a Justice of peace for Clarion Borough in Feb.1903 and was reelected in 1908 and served until he was elected Co.Commissioner at the fall election in 1908 ans assumed the duties of the office in Jan.1909.Soon after his retirement from Commissioners office his sickness manifested itself and he has been unwell since. On Dec.25,1867 Mr.Cyphert and Miss Eleanor P.Lewis were united in marriage at the bride home in Williamburg,Monroe Twp.and Mrs.Cyphert and following children survive;Mrs.Lon Campbell,Mrs.James Runyan,Herbert H.Benjamin O.and Anthony Jr.,of Clarion;Mrs.William C.Williams,Reidsburg,Mrs.Frank Brown and Mrs.A.A.Turner,Pittsburg. He also surivived by following brothers and sisters;Peter Cyphert,New Derry;John J.Brookville,George V.,McKeesport;Mrs Lizzie bridge and Mrs.Raymond Aaron,Kingsville.
Mr.Cyphert served in the army during he war of 1861-65 in Capt.Tanners Independent Co.and was honorably discharged with the Co. at the expiration of its enlistment. He was a member of the G.A.R.,Capt. J.B. Loomis Post of Clarion,and for several yrs.served as Commander of the post. He was also President of the Clarion County Soldiers Association which position he has held for several yrs.and has officiated at their reunion in Clarion.He was affilated with the Baptist Church of Clarion.Funeral was held last saturday afternoon,the serves being conducted by Dr.John Ballentine.The G.A.R. Post had charge of the exercises at the grave,using their ritual and a detail of pall bearers was appointed from Col.John Keatly Camp,Sons of Veterans. The body was laid to rest in the Clarion cemetery.Mrs.Cyphert and family desire to return their heartful thanks to the friends and neighbors who so kindly ministered to them in this time of great sorrow.
