Alda was the daughter of John and Mary (McLaughlin) Horton. She married Neriah McCubbins 'Cub' Benfield in 1919 and they were the parents of six children: George McCubbins, Kenneth Lee, Mildred Carolyn, James Ervin, Mary Lucille and Herman Larry.
