WOOD—Blanche (Picchi) Wood, 93, passed away Jan. 20, 2011, in Florence.
Blanche was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Roseville, Calif., to Louis Picchi and Virginia Ardemagni Picchi. She was raised in Sanger Calif., where she attended Sanger High. She was involved in drama, dance and entered many pageants.
After attending business college, Blanche met her future husband, Fred. The two married in Reno, Nev., in 1940, and raised two daughters, Patricia Ann and Virginia Lura.
In 1944, they built a house in Florence, where she continued to live until 2006.
Blanche immersed herself in being a housewife and devoted mother. True to her heritage, Blanche enjoyed cooking gourmet meals, and Italian food was her specialty. She spent countless hours baking. She also loved gardening, playing the piano and spending time with family.
Blanche worked in the kitchen at Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence where she retired in her early 70s.
She was a very caring, kind and gentle soul. She was a devoted Catholic who played the organ at Our Lady of the Dunes.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred, who passed away in 1999.
She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia, who passed away in 2009.
Blanche is survived by her daughter, Virginia Elliott, of Lemon Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren: Jacki Wheeler, Jenni Kanooth of Vancouver Wash., Michelle Elliott Wise of San Diego, Calif., and Joelle Baker of Tualatin, Ore.; three great-grandchildren: Kyle Kanooth, Abigail Kanooth and Kurt Baker; and a cousin, Shirley Jones, of Kenmore, Wash.
A Mass Intention will be held Feb. 4, at 9 a.m., at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Dunes Catholic Church in Florence.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Peace Harbor Hospice.
Arrangements are being held through Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home with inurnment at Pacific Sunset Cemetery.
