|Birth: ||May 10, 1835, Germany|
|Death: ||Apr. 21, 1919|
She was born in Kloster DŁnebroek (Wymeer), Ostfriesland, Germany, a daughter of Daniel Harms Gruis (1793-1871) & Wobke Hinderks Janssen (1791-1857). Grietje and Meike Gruis were twins.
She had a daughter, Wobbina, prior to her marriage to Freerk Abbas.
Grace was a very small woman and had a very soft voice. She was always interested in the grandchildren's development.
Grace probably had a stroke and was paralyzed from the neck down for 12 years. Freerk cared for her and carried her up and down the steps of their home as necessary. Freerk said she could run like a jackrabbit before she became paralyzed.
Grietje's birth date on her cemetery headstone reads 12 May 1836. This conflicts with the 10 May date in the Wymeer church records.
