Following information provided by Karen Michel Bennett:
"Son of Henry Stopher and Phebe Walker. Married Margaret Simpkins, 5 October 1856, Allen County, Indiana. The family migrated in 1869 to Saunders Co., Nebraska. He was a farmer before he fought for the Union in the Battle of Shiloh among others. 1860 census shows him with two children: Charles B. Stopher, age 2 yrs. and Samuel R. Stopher, aged four months. He had another son later named John Sherman Stopher."

"Residence was not listed; 26 years old. On 08/14/1862 he mustered into "G" CO OH 81st Infantry as a Private and mustered out on 07/13/1865 at Louisville KY. Promotion to Corpl 05/15/1864. GAR"
