W. H. Barker died at his home near Morristown, South Dakota, Sunday, March 31, 1918. The body was brought to Corning, Wednesday of last week and taken to Carbon, where funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. F. N. Ahern and interment was made in the Oakland Cemetery.
William Henry Barker was born in England, November 1, 1861, being aged 56 years and 6 months at the time of his death. In 1880 he located in Canada, which was his home for about two years, then he moved to Michigan and later on came west, locating at Carbon, Iowa. In the fall of 1910, he and his family located in Sioux County, South Dakota which has since been there home. Mr. Barker was married in 1886 to Miss Emily Maude Hart and to this union were born seven children, all of whom survive their parents. Mrs. Barker having passed away in 1904. The children are Harry Barker of Wakonda, South Dakota, Misses Anna and Agnes residing in Sioux City, Iowa, Arthur, Allen, and Miss Lena of Morristown, South Dakota, and Montie of Carbon, Iowa. Mr. Barker was again married in 1906 on January 1st to Mrs. Mary S. Essley and to this union two children were born, Gladys C. and Homer Clyde. Mr. Barker was a member of the Methodist Church for a time and later united with the Free Methodist people. A short funeral service was held at the home of Mr. Barker near Morristown on Monday of last week, Rev. B. Iorns, conducted the service, after which the body was shipped to Corning.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Barker, Arthur, Allen, and Miss Lena Barker, who accompanied the body from Morristown, also the other children of the deceased, with the exception of Gladys and Clyde; also J. C. McElrey of Onawa; Mrs. Agnes Fees and son, Edwin Barker of Clarinda, Mr. and Mrs. George J. Bass of Red Oak, Walter Gould of Hurley, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Grissom of Clarinda, and Mrs. W. H. Austin of Shenandoah.
