NINEVEH — William C. Ammons Jr., 86, of Nineveh, formerly of Brunswick, Ga., died Wednesday at his residence.
Born Aug. 2, 1922, in Coffee County, Ga., he was the son of William C. and Janie (Peagler) Ammons Sr.
He worked in furniture sales and retired as a Prudential insurance salesman.
He was a graduate of the Glynn Academy in Brunswick and a veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater of Operation with the 81st Airborne Division during the D-Day Normany invasion. He received the Purple Heart; Good Conduct, WWII Victory and EAMET medals, and the Croix De Guerre with Palm and Fourragere from the Provisional Government of France.
Survivors include one son, Karl (Luce) Ammons of Florida; two daughters, Kaye (Barry) Morris of Newman, Ga., and Karis (Hal) Johnson of Brown County; three grandchildren, Heather Renee, Harold Johnson III and Betsy Nickel; and four great-granddaughters, Lily, Shelly, Katie and Iris.
He was preceded in death by two spouses, Reba Day Ammons and Marjorie Ammons; one son, Kenn Ammons; one brother, Rema Ammons; and his parents.
Services will be 6 p.m. today at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home in Nashville with Richard Halladay officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick.
