ST. ALBANS -- Stewart J. Gasson, 91, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Saturday evening, June 26, 2004, at the FAHC in Burlington following a brief illness. He was born in Huntington, Vt. Sept. 28, 1912, the son of the late William and Maude (Davis) Gasson. On Sept. 2, 1939, Stewart married Kathryn L. Touchette in Enosburg. She died Nov. 26, 1997.

Stewart owned and operated a dairy farm in St. Albans Town for many years, retiring in 1976. Prior to that, he was a printer in Provincetown, Mass. Following his retirement from farming, he served as custodian for St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he was a very active member. He also mowed the lawn for the St. Albans Free Library. His interests included reading, walking, and riding, years ago on his motorcycle, and more recently in his car. He also loved animals.

Stewart was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Phi Alpha Class of the church. He was a member of Franklin Lodge 4, F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master in 1949 and again 50 years later in 1999. He was currently serving as Secretary for the Council, Chapter and Commandry. He was a Past Patron for Welden Chapter 79, OES. He is also a Trustee and President of the St. Albans Bay Cemetery Association.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Boisvert and her husband, Paul of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a sister, Mabel St. Cyr of Northfield, Vt.; two granddaughters, Laura Boyd and her husband, Bryan of Raleigh, N.C. and Mary Boisvert of Port Charlotte, Fla. and nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his numerous friends and his cat, "Cinnamon." In addition to his wife, Katheryn and his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Meda Aust.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. The service will be conducted by the officers and members of Franklin Lodge 4, F&AM. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
