Elmer Eugene (Gene) Black
Elmer Eugene Black, son of George Erie and Ruie (Stubblefield) Black, was born July 30, 1931 at Foss, OK. He died late Wednesday, October 14, 1992, at his home near Oakwood. He was 61 years of age, 2 months and 14 days.

As a youngster, Gene explored the South Canadian River and area west of Oakwood with friends, Sonny Barney, Billy Jack Tate, and brother, Dwain.

He graduated from Oakwood High School with the class of 1950 and in 1952 he entered the United States Army. He served his country and was honorably discharged in 1954 after serving overseas in Germany. Following his discharge, he moved to California where he was employed over eighteen years for Martin Marietta Harvey Aluminum Company as a tool and die repairman.

He married Esther V'Eloise in October of 1953 at El Paso, Texas. They had one son, Elmer Carlos. The past twenty years, Gene has made his home in the Oakwood area. He was a member of the Christian Church in Oakwood.

He is survived by his son Elmer (Carlos) Black of California; his mother Ruie of Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview Oklahoma. 4 brothers: Carl of Canton, Oklahoma, Theodore of Arriba, Colorado, Dwain of Ringwood, Oklahoma, and Harold of Oakwood; 5 sisters: Clara Mae Burnett, Marie Huenergardt, and Zela Layton, all of Enid, Oklahoma, June Wilkes of Wakeeney, Kansas, and Gracie Fox of Fairmont, Oklahoma.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceeded in his death by his father and an infant brother.

Graveside services were held Monday, October 19, 1992, at 2 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery southwest of Oakwood, Oklahoma with Ewel Vaughn, pastor of the Richmond Christian Church, officiating. Services were conducted and arrangements by the Redinger Funeral Home in Seiling, Oklahoma.
