W.J. Magee Rites Held Here Thurs. At Lakeside
Father of Mrs. Tom Austin, Age 74, Dies at Her Home Wednesday Afternoon Following a Lingering Illness, Funeral Services Thursday.
Mr. W.J. Magee passed away at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, May 14, 1941, after an illness of several months. Deceased was born September 15, 1866 in Groveton, Texas. He was married to Miss Mary Bennett, February 7, 1889 and to this union was born ten children, eight of whom are living.

He and his family came to Eagle Lake from Portland, Oregon in 1908 and engaged extensively in potato farming for several years. For the last year and a half Mr. Magee has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Tom Austin, coming here from Rio Hondo, Texas. He was a member of the Community Church.

Surviving are his widow, eight children, forty-seven grand children, twenty great grand children and four sisters. The children are Mrs. Harry Hayman of Carey, Ohio, Mrs. Tom Gann and Mrs. Virgil Clark of San Benito, Dewey Magee and Don Magee of Beaumont, Mrs. Garey Miles of Elkland, Mo., Bill Magee of Rio Hondo, and Mrs. T. E. Austin of Eagle Lake. The sisters who survive are Mrs. Mollie Browder and Mrs. Will Kendrict of Groveton, Texas, Mrs. Joe Terry of Crecy, Texas and Mrs. Sug Bennett of Brownfield, Texas.

Funeral Services were conducted by the Methodist Minister, Rev. K. R. Hemphill, from the McCreary Funeral Home at 4:30, Thursday afternoon, May 15th. Interment being made in the Lakeside Cemetery.

The pallbearers were his grandsons, Cordell Austin, William Austin, Dewey Magee, Floyd Gann, George Clark, and Mervin Colburn.

Mrs. Wozencraft played a prelude of sacred music as an opening to the impressive services. The funeral hymns were "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide With Me" rendered by Mrs. Noel Parker, Mrs. K. R. Hemphill, Mrs. Cecil Gerstenberg, Barney Davis and Martin Hale.

The Headlight joins numerous friends in extending heartfelt sympathy in all in their bereavement.
