George E Gardner, 57, of 902 S.20th Street, died at his home at 11:45 p.m. after an illness of several months. Born in White County, he was reared in Benton County and was a graduate of Gilboa Township High School. He came to Lafayette in 1938, and was a plumber who worked for several general contractors over the years. He was married at Romney in 1938 to Mary Kennedy, who survives. He was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 441 of Romney and Local 240 of the Plumbers and Steam-fitters Union. Surviving with the widow are two sons, Gary at home, and Fred of Lafayette; a daughter Mary Gold Gardner at home; two sisters, Mrs Clara Tobias of Rt 1 Remington, and Mrs Elsie Bishop of McCoy, Colo., and a brother, Arthur of Rt 1, Remington. Funeral: Friends may call at Hippensteel Funeral Home from 5 to 9 Tuesday. Masonic services there t 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and final services at Hippensteel chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev Louis E Hoskell officiation. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, Indiana. One granddaughter also survives.
