Carl M. Applewhite Sr., 88, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Memorials: Birdville Baptist Church.
Carl was born March 12, 1920, in Fort Worth to Mary Jane and James A. Applewhite. He lived in the Fort Worth area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asia Pacific theater where he earned the Good Conduct, Victory and Expert Rifleman medals. He worked for Premier, which was later Winston Refinery, for over 40 years. Carl was a longtime member and deacon at Birdville Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Cumy Applewhite; five brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors: Daughter, Susan Applewhite Potter and husband, David, of Granbury; son, Carl Marvin Applewhite Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Mineola; sister, Pete Harris of Weatherford; grandchildren, Michelle Hanson, Carla Morris, Dr. A.J. Applewhite and Dr. Aric Applewhite; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
