Samuel Raymond Brockinton, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup. The Glynn County native had lived in Jones County from 1951 to 1968, in Gwinnette County from 1968 until 1993, and Wayne and Echols Counties from 1993 to present. Mr. Brockinton was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a Gideon, a retired realtor and livestock auctioneer. He was a member of the Fargo Evangelistic Church and attended the Faith Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church of Jesup.

Survivors are his wife, Patricia K. Brockinton of Fargo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Louise Brockinton of Sumter, S.C., Joe and Willa Brockinton of Wilmore, Ky.; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Steve Earhart of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his grandchildren; Therese and Jay Hodges of Athens, Catherine Jewel Brockinton of Sumter, Samuel Lee Brockinton and Emily Brockinton of Wilmore; four stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Kathy W. and Charles Handley of Fargo, Patricia W. and Eugene Gray of Mayday, Suzie W. Musgrove of Valdosta, Judy W. and Chris Tolle of Homerville; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Charles and Lorrie Wetherington of Valdosta; and nine stepgrandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Faith Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church with the Rev. James Carter officiating, along with the Rev. Nancy Chauncey and the Rev. Eldred Kelley. Musical tribute by Mary Lynn Ayers.
