Charlene Carlton Knorpp, 75, longtime Amarillo businesswoman, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Mrs. Knorpp was born and raised in Chillicothe. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1940 and moved to Amarillo where she was employed in merchandising for JC Penney.

In 1943, she joined the Navy as a WAVE. She served for three years during World War II as a merchandise buyer.

Mrs. Knorpp attended Amarillo College and studied marketing at the University of Southern California. She had been in business in Amarillo for more than 50 years.

From 1954 until 1963, Mrs. Knorpp owned and operated Knorpp's Toyland with her husband. She was his partner in the Fireplace Center from 1963 until the sale of the business in 1979. She was active in developing Knorpp's Business Park from 1972 until the present.

Since 1940, Mrs. Knorpp was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was a member and past president of Women Veterans of America in Amarillo and worked with the Navy Women's Veterans Association.

She was active with the Lone Star Ballet as well as the Amarillo Symphony. She was a past member of the Amarillo Country Club and the Amarillo Club.

She married Arthur S. Knorpp Jr. in 1946 at Amarillo.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Nancy Knorpp White of Amarillo; a son, Raymond Arthur Knorpp of Amarillo; a brother, Jack Carlton of Amarillo; three sisters, Joyce Mathews and Dorothy Phillips, both of Chillicothe, and Ann Calloway of Russellville, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

The family will be at 2407 Juniper. They suggest memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center or the Lone Star Ballet, P.O. Box 1133, Amarillo, TX 79101.
