Amos Bates, 88 years old retired Durant farmer, died in a local hospital at 5:10 pm Saturday following an illness of nine days. Funeral services will be held at the Holmes Chapel in Durant at 3:30 pm Monday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Holmes Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements. Born in Tenn. in 1869, Mr Bates had lived in Bryan county since 1919. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include four sons, William of Durant, Johnny of Blue, Dossey of Sunray, Tex., and Claud Bates of Roswell, N.M., six daughters, Mrs Lillie Orlds, Mrs Bell Spence and Mrs Bertha Lee, all of Durant, Mrs Laura Puckett of Eva, Ala, Jennie Townsend of San Bernardino, Calif. and Ruth Cryer of Eunice, New Mex., 36 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
