OBIT: In Canton, Ill.; Earl Aten, A World War Veteran, Dies Following Long Illness Henry Earl Aten, aged 44, died at his home in Canton last Wednesday morning after an 18 months illness. Death was attributed to lukemia. He had recently returned from the Hines Veterans hospital at Hines, Ill. where he had spent several intervals during the past two years. Born in Astoria, Sept. 28, 1892, a son of John and Lydia Aten, he spent all of his life in this vicinity. He was married to Beulah Moore at Jacksonville, Ill. Oct. 25, 1930. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Lydia Aten of Astoria, his widow, Beulah Aten, two daughters, Patricia Sue and Norma Jane, four brothers, Edward of Chicago and Guy, Clarence, and Merle, Astoria, and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Davis, Astoria and Mrs. Lulu Bricker of Ray. Funeral services were held at the Astoria U. B. church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. D. Cotherman, assisted by Rev. I. E. Vanwey. The American Legion had charges of the services at the grave in the Oak Grove cemetery, west of Astoria.
