MR. AND MRS. RALPH HOOKER DIED IN PLANE CRASH AT VINITA, OK.
Carthage Couple, Married About Three Months Ago, Left Carthage Airport at 11 A.M., Bound for Clarence in Rented Plane - Crash Occurred at 1:53-
She Was Killed Instantly and He Died Shortly After the Crash.
Mrs. Margaret Sweezy Hooker was killed instantly and her husband Ralph Hooker, was fatally injured in an airplane crash about 1:30 o'clock this afternoon at the edge of the Vinita airport.
According to the Luginbuel funeral home at Vinita, whose ambulance was called to the scene of the crash . Hooker died in Vinita hospital about 30 minutes after he entered the hospital and approximately 50 minutes after the crash.
Mr. and Mrs. Hooker took off from Myers Field municipal airport here shortly after 11 o'clock this morning, bound for Claremore, according to officials of the field here.
He was 22 years old and his wife was 20.
The accident apparently occurred when the plan ran out of gas and Hooker was unable to make it into the field. Aden Cash, manager of Myers Field here, said he had checked with Claremore and that the airport there told him Hooker had endeavored to get gasoline there, but had been sent back to Vinita for fuel. Evidently the crash occurred before they could make it into the Vinita field. Cash said the plane carried only enough gas for about a 2½ hour flight at the outside.
The young couple was married only about three months ago. They were living in an apartment on East Chestnut street. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hooker, 619 Morningside Drive, and she is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sweezy, 818 South Fulton street.
Hooker was familiar with the plane he was flying, a Ryan PT-22 which he rented this morning from the Midwest Aviation Activities, Inc., Cash said. Hooker had 20 solo hours in that plane and five or six dual hours before that. Altogether he had about 150 flying hours. He held a private pilot's license.
Hooker attended Carthage High School here in 1945 and has been employed for some time at the Central National Bank here.
The bodies were at the Luginbuel funeral home at Vinita and the Knells were to go to Vinita this afternoon to return them to Carthage. Relatives here were notified shortly after the crash and went to Vinita immediately.

The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. And why shouldn't it be? - it is the same the angels breathe. ~Mark Twain|
