Mary Alice Hollis Browning, 84, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008 in her Moss Bluff residence.
A native of Lillie , Louisiana , Mary lived in south Lake Charles a number of years and she had resided in Moss Bluff the last 28 years. She worked as a secretary for Briggs Plumbing and also as a floral designer for Duflot's Florist for many years. Mary was a longtime member of Boulevard Church of Christ and had attended Parkway Church of Christ in Moss Bluff the last 4 years as her health declined. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an avid Bible reader and loved tending her flowers, gardening and sewing. She always looked forward to traveling each summer to Colorado with her husband to pick fresh fruit.
She is survived by her son: E. T. Browning, III and wife, Jeannie of Moss Bluff; daughter, Linda Keeton and husband, Patrick of Newport News, VA; brothers, Josh R. "Jack" Hollis and wife, Bonnie of West Monroe and Warner Hollis and wife, Velma of Shreveport; grandchildren, Michelle Browning of Kansas City, MO, Melonie Valentine and husband, Aaron of Sulphur and Angie Newby and husband, Hunter of Moss Bluff; great grandchildren, Aby and Evan Valentine; and numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, E. T. Browning, Jr; parents, Tyre Joe Hollis and Mary Alice Henderson Hollis; sisters, Odessa Jones, Lou Hart, Maude Terrall and Selma Hudnall; brothers, Lesley Hollis, John Henry Hollis, Warlick Hollis and Tom Hollis.
Her funeral was at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Johnson Funeral Home. Brother Paul Franks officiated. Burial followed in Consolata Cemetery .
Pallbearers were Ricky Hudnall, Aaron Valentine, Hunter Newby, Stan Killian, Paul Killian and Wayne Statum.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sandra Bruno, Odyssey Hospice (special thanks to Connie and Liz) and the staff of Memorial Home Health for the specialized care given to Mary during her lengthy illness. A special note of thanks to sitters, Evelyn Daigle, Leola Stevenson, Marjorie Dartez, Trisha Ibarra and Sylvia Sonnier for their many hours of devotion, companionship and care of Mary this past year. God truly blessed our family through each of you during her illness and your love and care are very much appreciated.
