J. Wesley Gearhart, a life-long resident of Boggs Township, died at the home of his son. R.W. Gearhart of Market Street, Sunday, Feb. 5th, at noon. He had been in poor health for several months, during which he had been given every care by Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart.
Born in Boggs Township on April 12 1855, Mr. Gearhart was approaching his 78th birthday at the time of his death. He owned and farmed a fine piece of land some two miles from Blue Ball and in that section he was highly regarded. He was a hard worker and spent an active life in the country until illness brought him to the home of his son some months ago.
Mr. Gearhart is survived by his widow, West Anna Gearhart, who is also an invalid and who makes her home with her daughter. Mrs. W. W. Wrigley of Clearfield. Five sons and three daughters also survive, as follow: R. W. of Clearfield, E. Roy of Altoona, Birtus and Harold of Pontiac Mich., Raymond of Philipsburg, Mrs. James Kurtz of West Decatur, and Mrs. Owen Kline of St. Louis Mo. Two children preceded their father in death, Frances, who died in 1903 after an appendicitis operation, and Clifford, who was killed while firing a locomotive on Nov. 11, 1903 near Altoona.
Funeral services will be held at the R. W. Gearhart residence at 233 Market street Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. A. C. Fray, pastor of Wallacenton M. E. Church of which Mr. Gearhart for years was an active member. He will be assisted by Dr. E. C. Reeve of the Presbyterian Church. Interment in Mock's Cemetery near Blue Ball.
Friends may view the body at the Gearhart residence Monday evening.
