Coal and Ice Dealer, Dies
Had lived in Ellington 38 years conducting large farm near Rockville line.
Rockville, July 16, (Special)
John Jacob Luetjen 63 of Mountain Street, Ellington, who lived on Mountain street near the Ellington-Rockville line, died Monday at his home after a long illness. Mr Luetjen was a resident of Elington for 38 years and had long been active in Rockville and Ellingron, conduction a wood and coal business and a large farm. In recent years he also sold ice. Mr Luetjen was noted as a tree remover and he directed the removing of the larg tree that stood for many years between the Henry Building and the Memorial Building. He also removed other large trees in this vicinity, especially in the center of the city. Born in Holland, January 5 1876 he came to this country at the age of 9 living for a while in New York State and coming to this vicinity 38 years ago.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in which he was deeply interested. Mr Luetjen leaves his wife Mrs Mary (Schanz) Luetjen, four daughters, Mrs Gordon Downes, Mrs Henry Meyer and Miss Louise Luetjen all of Ellington and Mrs Clifford Kemp of Rockville, and a son John Luetjen Jr.
Mr Luetjen also leave four sisters, Mrs Fred Richards of Ellington, Mrs George Dickinson of Rockville, Miss Helen Luetjen of Hartford, and Mrs Minnie Thompson of California, and five brothers Martin Luetjen of Hartford, Henry and George Luetjen of New York, Fred Luetjen of New Hampshire, and Herman of New Britian and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at his home. Rev Erich O. Pieper pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating . Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetry.
