Robert J. Gagnon, 84
PORTLAND -- Robert James Gagnon, 84, died Tuesday, June 21, 2006.
He was born on June 1, 1922 in Dixfield, a son of Winifred (Blaisdell) and Philip Gagnon.
After he graduated from high school he was drafted and served in the United Sates Army during World War II. He married Barbara Hildreth of Falmouth at St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church and together they had a son.
Robert enjoyed hockey and played semipro as a young man. In later years he enjoyed the pleasures of boating and fishing. Robert was especially proud of his 50 year career with St. Johnsbury Transportation and his 50 year membership with Teamster Local 340.
Robert will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband of nearly 60 years. He was also a wonderful Dad who was a good listener who was open and nonjudgmental. To his grandchildren he showed them what it meant to be accepted for each one's uniqueness. This man is now missed and will be missed as long as there is a memory of him.
Robert is survived by his wife Barbara of Portland; his son Bruce of Chester, N.H; his grandchildren Scott Gagnon of Beaverton, Ore., Meredith Robinson of Milford, N.H. and Michelle Taylor of Hampstead, N.H.; his great-grandchildren Jacob, Michael Scott, and Isabella; and his two sisters Fern Claus of Iowa and Patricia Howard of Florida.
Visiting hours will be on Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine 04096 with the funeral service also at the funeral home on Saturday, June 24 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth.
