Youngest (10th) child of Merton HYNES & Mary PERRIZO; Father died of appendicitis when Emerson was 18 months old; attended public school for elementary and high school in Winnebago MN. BA (in Philosophy?) St John's University, Collegeville MN 1937. MA (in Humanities--experimental program) Notre Dame University, 1939; Professor at St John's University Collegeville, 1940-1959; taught philosophy, sociology, political science. Legislative Assistant to US Senator Eugene J McCarthy, 1959-1970. Suffered stroke in fall 1968, died of heart attack.
