Peter & Margaret Sjostrom came to the U.S. From Sweden in 1892 with their 6-month old son, Alfred , and settled in Minnesota until 1900 when they moved to Monroe, Washington with their now larger family, Alfred, Vera & Mabel. They had three additional daughters, Edna, Maud, and Esther. All survive except for Vera. Peter opened a general merchandise store on Main St. and was in business for much of his 41 years in Monroe. He also was a deputy assessor of Snohomish County and was known as an expert on the value of mercantile stocks. He left one brother, John Sjostrom, that followed him to Monroe.
