Birth: Feb. 19, 1857
Death: Aug. 17, 1941
Nuckolls County
Nebraska, USA

Emily Ann Bottom, daughter of Joshua C. and Sarah Ann Bottom, was born Feburary 19, 1857, and passed away at her home in Ruskin August 17, 1941. She came to Nebraska with her parents in 1874 settling first at Brownville. At a later date she went to Phelps City, Mo.; to find employment, where she first met her future husband, C.W. Adams a lumber merchant of that city. She was married at Hebron, Nebr., July 6, 1877, and to this union were born three sons and one daughter, all of whom were with her at the time of her passing. Soon after her marriage she and her husband came to Nuckolls county and took up a homestead near where the present town of Oak is located. This place was known as Oak Grove and at that time consisted of a single house in which the postoffice was kenpt (sic). She joined the Methodist church in early life and remained a consistent member until her death. She was thoroughly conversant with the privations and hardships of early pioneer life and in spite of all unfavorable conditions incident to a new country, she and her husband built a good home, reared their children, giving each of them the advantage of such school as was then obtainable. After deciding to re-engage in the lumber business, the family moved to Henrietta, near where Ruskin now stands, and Mr. Adams built the first house in that place. Here Mr. Adams with M. Bolton of Davenport established the Ruskin Lumber Company and continued to manage the affairs of that business until failing health compelled his retirement a short time prior to his death, which occurred on October 6, 1906.

Mrs. Adams leaves to mourn her passing, three sons, Albert, Juniata, Roy, Ogallala, Ira, Nelson; one daughter, Mrs. Leona Larsen, Ruskin; two brothers, Edward S. Bottom, Edgar, Franklin H. Bottom, Ong; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Olive Spence, Jewell, Kansas; eight grand children, two great grand children, beside other relatives and many friends. Hers was a busy life and she will be greatly missed in the community.

Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday, August 17, at ten o'clock a.m., conducted by Rev. Clarence Mersch of the Church of Christ at Davenport. Music was furnished by Mrs. Evelyn Mersch and Mrs. Mabel Magee with Mrs. C.O. Hull at the piano. Interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery north-east of Ruskin. Pallbearers were: C.W. Edwards, C.O. Hull, Earl Lewis, J.P. Jensen, G.H. Smith and Henry Wegener.
