MRS. GAY DIES OF LINGERING ILLNESS
Wife of Prison Foreman Resident 22 Years
Mrs. Lillian Ficklin Gay, 54, died at her home, 212 State street, late Monday night following a long illness. Mrs. Gay was the wife of L. D. Gay, foreman at the state penitentiary.
She was born at Columbia, March 23, 1883, the daughter of John H. and Anna Toalson. Nov. 28, 1899, she was married to Tom Ficklin of Columbia. Mr. Ficklin died in 1921. Eight children were born to the couple.
On November 30, 1927, she was married to L. D. Gay, who survives. Mrs. Gay had been a resident of Jefferson City for 22 years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three children of her first marriage, Mrs. Purl Nichols, Mrs. Lud Balsmore and N. C. Ficklin, all of Columbia; two step-children, T. W. Ficklin, Columbia, and Mrs. Julia Miller, state of California; three sisters, Mrs. Carney Stone, Jefferson City, Mrs. C. W. Luecker, Sturgeon, Mo., and Mrs. Charles Davidson, Columbia; and eight grandchildren. Five children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gay was a member of the Methodist church.
