Pugilist - Bantamweight/Featherweight Record: 66-5-1 (63 KOs). Became a two-time state amateur and three-time Pacific Coast champion, won a national Catholic Youth Organization title and advanced to the finals of the 1936 U.S. Olympic trials. In the senior division of the Golden Gloves, he once won all three of his bouts with first-round knockouts. Forced to quit boxing for a year because of a heart murmur. Returned in 1938 as a Lightweight, only to lose his license permanently after 16 bouts because of his heart murmur.

During World War II, he taught boxing to troops at St. Mary's College and at a Texas base. He later worked nearly 40 years as a supervisor for Burgermeister Beer in San Francisco.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; three sons, Gary of Cupertino, Jim of Holly Springs, N.C., and Rick of San Carlos; a brother, Dave, of Fresno; and six grandchildren.
