Atkins, Leroy

d.1923.
Married "Juliet A. Gaines" (b.1853;
d.1939) on 4/22/1870 in MO.

He married Juliet Anne Gaines (b. Feb. 18, 1853 to George & Judith {Duncan} Gaines]; d. 1939) on April 22, 1870 in Chillicothe (Livingston County), Missouri. At different times in his life he worked as a farmer, a lumberman, a gas well driller, steamboat engineer, and carpenter. Family tradition states that he was present, and in uniform, at Ford's Theatre in Washington the night Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Descendants have his sword. His name and "A.O.U.W." (Ancient Order of United Workmen) is engraved on it. In 1880, he was living in Grundy Co., Missouri and had fathered at least two children (Mary [or Maymie E.] & Earl) by that time. Two more children born to Leroy and Juliet (Wilma and Norman). Leroy died of pneumonia.
