Former Pottawatomie County Deputy Sheriff and civil service worker Gerald L. Nations of Shawnee died Saturday at the age of 83.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.

Gerald L. Nations was born May 12, 1915, in Quincy, Ill., to Roy P. and Maude (Cook) Nations. He was reared in Monte Vista, Colo., and lived many places while serving in the U.S. Army. He was a World War II veteran and had been a sergeant first class in the infantry in the European Theater of Operations. He retired from the Army in 1962 and lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma City before moving to Shawnee 30 years ago.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 12 years and served with civil service for 28 years. He also was a Pottawatomie County Sheriff's deputy.

Nations was a member of Blue Lodge Mount Scott 540 of Lawton, Lawton Consistory where he was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriners, Shawnee American Legion Post 16 and Shawnee DAV. He served as a clown and worked with the Children's Hospital in Shreveport, La.

Preceding him in death were his former wife, Pat Nation; his parents; one brother, Donald Nations; and two sisters, Guelda Toller and Dixie Yarton.

Surviving are his brothers and sister-in-law, Kenneth Nations, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mel and Kathy Nations, Oklahoma City; special friend, Joyce Davis; and many other relatives.
