After a protracted illness extending over many months, Phoebe Ellen McCombs Sandberg Harminson succumbed to carunoma on Thrusday, July 20th at her home in Afton. Mrs Harmison was born May 25th 1862 the daughter of Andrew and Lucy Lucretta Brown McCombs.
Her early years were spent at Logan and at Trenton, Utah. She was married August 10, 1880 to John Oliver Sandberg. Two sons were born to this union, John and Edwin Sandberg.
Her husband, John O Sandberg died November 2nd 1883 at Trenton, Utah. In 1885 she married to James Harmison in the Logan Temple. Two sons wre born to this union, Alvin and Heber Harison. alvin died when a young man.
In the fall of 1886 she with her husband and three small children came to Star Valley temporarily living at Afton, later removing to Gorver where she lived a short time then moving back to Afton where she made her home permanently.
Mrs. Harmison, though of a retiring disposition endeared herself to many by her willing services during illness. she was also skillful in the making of beautiful quilts. Her lovely handiwork is cherished in many homes.
Because of her early widowhood the family maintenance devolved principally upon her and she experienced all the rigors and hardships that are a part of Pioneer life.
Funeral services were held in the North Ward chapel Sunday Just 23rd, Bishop Frank Gardner conduction.
Musical numbers were two selections by a mixed quartet comprising Marguerite and Boneta Gardner, Ivan Gardner and Stanley Bennion, Vocal Solo by Ernest Turner and a Vocal Solo by Mary Call.
Prayers were by Bp. R.S. Thurman and B.J. Hale. L.C. Jensen who for the past two years was the ward teacher in the home of the deceased, testified to the faith always manifested by her. How during the early years at Grover, during what has heen designated as the "hard winter" she assisted neighbors during illness or distress,
A.D. Taysom said he considered Mrs. Harmison to be a true Latter-day saint and had learned to admire her for heer true worth. The speakers paid tribute to the sons of Mrs. Harmison as they were kind and considerate and mindful of her welfare.
Bp. Gardner said he apperciated the hardships experienced by the early pioneers of Star Valley and that despite these hardships they had remained firm and true and prepared the way for their descendants.
Interment was in the Afton Cemetery,
