Richard W. Trantham, 82, Rover, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains. He was born April 27, 1918, at Rover, the son of Elijah Sanford "Eli" and Pearl Giles Trantham.
On May 11, 1945, he was married at Salem, AR to Irene Redburn.
Mr. Trantham was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army 88th Infantry and Occupation Forces as a M.P. in the European Theatre of War.
He owned and operated a sawmill and farmed for more than 50 years. He was one of the founding members of the Rover Volumteer Fire Department.
Mr. Trantham was of the Assembly of God faith and attended Pine Hill Assembly of God Church in Thomasville.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Trantham, of the family home; one son, Glen E. Trantham and wife, Vivian, Rover; three grandchildren, Jeff Trantham and wife, Teresa; Melissa Roush and husband, Scott F.; and Misty Trantham; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Trantham, Christopher Trantham and Sage Roush; two brothers, Elijah Sanford Trantham and wife, Bernadine; and Ron Trantham, all of West Plains; four sisters, Eva Montgomery and husband, Herbert; Elila Redburn; Veva Montgomery and husband, Hubert; and Thelma Lasater and husband, Byron; all of West Plains; two brothers-in-law, Arlisa Huffman, West Plains, and Elbert Luna, Ava, MO; two sisters-in-law, Allena Vonallmen and husband, Clyde; and Erma Montgomery and husband, Clyde; all of West Plains; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Emma Jane Trantham; one great-granddaughter, Shelby Dawn Roush; one infant brother; one infant sister; two sisters, Marie Huffman and Beulah Luna; and two stepbrothers, Woodrow Ledbetter and Leo Ledbetter.
The body will lie in state until service time at the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home of West Plains. Family visitation will be today. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, with the Revs. Lonnie Pyatt and Nolen Earls officiating. Burial will be in Jolliff Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Posts 23 and 374, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1828, AmVets Posts 98 and 127, and Disabled American Veterans Post 43.
