He is also survived by a son, Robert Chambers of Salem; daughter Katherine Owsley of Portland; brother Robert Chambers of Washougal, Washington; sisters Anna Jo Webb of Milton-Freewater and Alma Louise Hays of Yreka, California; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
His son, Christopher Chambers, also a marine, was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained overseas.
