Married to Grace Louise Gale, and father of David Gale.
He trained as a bookkeeper for a sign company. In 1928, he was named the assistant branch manager for Glidden Paint and Varnish company. The company wanted to send a married man a broad, and that helped spur him onto asking Grace to marry him and join in the adventure. Glidden sent them by sea (best accommodations) to Hawaii. They honeymooned in Hawaii on a work assignment. He had a car in Honolulu (which was a rare thing) and was able to tour and sight see over the island. His job was to open a store for Glidden on the island, so as not to depend upon San Francisco for supplies. While in Hawaii, his wife had a tubal pregnancy which was very life threatening (she almost died).
